IAA Day 14: Rosaline Jay

Indie Author Advent Day 14: Rosaline Jay

Welcome to day 14 of the 2025 Indie Author Advent! This fun series will help us to get hyped for 2026 by celebrating some of the wonderful indie releases of 2025! Today I am interviewing Rosaline Jay. Be sure to check out my Instagram for even more excitement with this event!

Rosaline's 2025 Release

The Interview

1. What is your favorite thing about your 2025 release?

"I think that my favorite thing about The Heart is right in the title: this book truly is my heart. It's the point where I really felt like I found my voice as an author, and really got to let loose and have some fun. I adore these characters and their stories, and nothing has made me happier than having readers reaching out to tell me that they loved it too. 🖤

2. What are your inspirations for your book?

"For this series specifically, it was the characters themselves who inspired me. I set out to write a forced proximity smut book with very little plot, but my characters had their own idea of where this should go. Now it's a whole series."

3. Why do you think representation is so important in books?

"If you've ever seen the movie Footloose... that town is essentially how I grew up. Being gay, or different, or talking about sex was straight-up not allowed. It wasn't until I started reading books with representation that I realized there is an entire world out there full of people who are living their lives the way they want to live them, not just the way they've been told they should. Books helped me find myself, and I hope that my stories can be that anchor for someone too."

4. Any advice for people who want to publish in 2026?

"Don't give up. This industry is HARD. You might see an indie author smiling and doing well, but what you don't see is the years they spent working on their manuscript every second outside of working a full time job and having a family. You don't see the hours they spent on their query letters, how they felt after hundreds of rejections, how they cried on the floor when they messed up their first upload on KDP and didn't know how to fix it. The joy they felt when they finally published, only to go a year with no page reads. Find your people, cling to them, and just KEEP GOING. It might be the hardest thing you ever do, but when you start having readers loving your book as much as you do, every second is worth it. Nothing in my life has ever made me happier, and I wouldn't change a second of it."

5. What are you most looking forward to in 2026? Any more releases on the horizon?

"Oh yes, I have so many things I'm excited for in 2026! The Yacht (Book 3 in the DOH series) will be coming out ASAP, and The Coffee Shop will be in DUET audio in February (Grayson Owens, Sean Masters, and Rosaline Jay)! I will be attending several events, and I am working on a piece for a charity anthology coming September. Between all of that, I will be writing Deck of Hearts #4!"

6. Is there anything else you would like to add?

"This is my dream, thank you for being a part of it 🖤"

Outro
