Indie Author Advent Day 8: RJ Scott

Welcome to day 8 of the 2025 Indie Author Advent! This fun series will help us to get hyped for 2026 by celebrating some of the wonderful indie releases of 2025! Today I am interviewing RJ Scott. Be sure to check out my Instagram for even more excitement with this event!
RJ's 2025 Release
1. What is your favorite thing about your 2025 release[s]?
"What I love most about my 2025 books is how emotionally grounded they are. Every story this year has come from a place of deep connection—characters who are fighting to rebuild, to trust again, and to find love where it seems impossible. I’ve leaned into the darker edges of romance, but always with the promise of hope and healing at the end. Seeing those arcs come together has been incredibly rewarding."
2. What are your inspirations for your book[s]?
"My inspiration always comes from people—their resilience, their flaws, and the small, human ways they show love. I’m drawn to stories of survival and redemption, and to the idea that love doesn’t erase trauma, but makes living with it possible. Music, travel, and the changing seasons often spark ideas too. There’s something about quiet, reflective moments that tend to turn into full stories in my head."
3. Why do you think representation is so important in books?
"Representation is everything. It’s about giving people the chance to see themselves on the page, to feel understood and valued. For queer readers especially, stories that end with hope and love matter deeply—they say you deserve your happy ending too. For everyone else, representation fosters empathy and understanding. Books can change hearts as much as they entertain."
4. Any advice for people who want to publish in 2026?
"Write the story that won’t leave you alone. Don’t chase trends, don’t worry about what’s selling—focus on the story that means something to you. Learn your craft, get feedback, and stay open to growth, but protect your voice fiercely. Publishing is unpredictable; the only constant is the work and your love for it. And don’t underestimate the power of community—find other writers who understand the journey."
5. What are you most looking forward to in 2026? Any more releases on the horizon?
"2026 is shaping up to be busy and exciting. I’ll be in Berlin for RARE, where I'll be meeting readers and other authors, which I’m looking forward to. I also have new books planned across several series—some darker, some full of small-town warmth. There’s a balance this year between intensity and comfort, and I’m looking forward to exploring both. I have a new release in January that completes my dark romance series (Doc - Redcars 4), a new cowboy book, and a brand new series about an adoptive family with a set of brothers all finding their HEA! Not to mention more sports romance (Hockey) with my co-author, VL Locey."
6. Is there anything else you would like to add?
"Just that I’m endlessly grateful to the readers who keep coming back. Whether it’s for the found family, the healing arcs, or the slow-burn love stories, you make it possible for me to do what I love. Every message, every review, every shared moment—it all matters. Thank you for being part of this journey."
