IAA Day 4: Madalyn George

Indie Author Advent Day 4: Madalyn George

Welcome to day 4 of the 2025 Indie Author Advent! This fun series will help us to get hyped for 2026 by celebrating some of the wonderful indie releases of 2025! Today I am interviewing Madalyn George. Be sure to check out my Instagram for even more excitement with this event!

Madalyn's 2025 Release

The Interview

1. What is your favorite thing about your 2025 release?

"I love how steamy Snow Globe Secrets turned out. I thought it would be more holiday fluff, but, the main characters were stuck alone in a cabin, they had to find something to get up to! I also really loved the ancillary characters in this one. Austin's dad (who is also Randall's old college friend) is goofy and oblivious and just happy with life. We also get to meet other denizens of Beachview and some of them definitely need to find their happily ever afters!"

2. What are your inspirations for your book?

"This one really started with me challenging myself to write one of my favorite tropes, forced proximity. I pictured snow as the culprit, so making it a holiday story came naturally from there. I also had the opening lines between Austin and his dad dancing around in my head for some time, so that led to the father's best friend trope."

3. Why do you think representation is so important in books?

"I've learned so much since I started reading MM Romance. As a kid growing up in the 1980s, queer representation was few and far between and treated as, at best something "other", at worst something shocking and wrong. I always felt that I could fall in love with anyone (I would jokingly say that if someone tolerated me and I them, their gender didn't matter) but I didn't have the words pansexual or demisexual in my vocabulary until a few years ago. How wonderful for people who have grown up in the internet age to find answers to questions I didn't even know how to ask in 1989."

4. Any advice for people who want to publish in 2026?

"Write every day and don't be afraid of the editing process! I still work full-time, so I often find it challenging to keep up with the "write everyday" part, but those stretches when I do, even if it's only a few hundred words each day, help keep me motivated and moving forward. The words won't all be good, though, so let yourself enjoy the editing process, knowing that you are working to find the best versions of your characters and their stories. Then, just do it! At a certain point, you have to push that baby bird out of the nest and let it fly."

5. What are you most looking forward to in 2026? Any more releases on the horizon?

"Next up for me are two books hinted at in Snow Globe Secrets. In that book, Randall has moved back to the US (after spending time in England) to facilitate a merger between his company and New Day Technologies. Technical Advances, about the owner of New Day Tech and his newest employee, is in the editing phase and I hope to announce a release date soon. On the writing side, we meet Dalton and Turner in Snow Globe Secrets and learn that they have a past. Winter Break is my next Winter Secrets novel. It will be out in time for winter break 2026. You can pre-order both of these books now!"

6. Is there anything else you would like to add?

"Becoming a writer was a dream I've had since I was a kid. Getting to do it on my own terms in a genre that I love has been a dream come true for me. The fact that the online bookish community is so welcoming and supportive is the main reason I found the bravery to give it a try. Just like in my books, sometimes, dreams do come true."

Outro

Thank you to Madalyn for getting involved in this advent! I am excited to see what they come out with in 2026. Stay tuned tomorrow for another amazing indie author and their releases!
