IAA Day 16: Mimi Gunn

Indie Author Advent Day 16: Mimi Gunn

Welcome to day 16 of the 2025 Indie Author Advent! This fun series will help us to get hyped for 2026 by celebrating some of the wonderful indie releases of 2025! Today I am interviewing Mimi Gunn. Be sure to check out my Instagram for even more excitement with this event!

Mimi's 2025 Releases

1. What is your favorite thing about your 2025 releases?

"My inspiration for the book was the lovely frenemies to lovers relationship building between Simone and Roger in my earlier books (Death at the Luau especially). They're funny, they're flirty and spicy and I love them so much. Roger's story began to form in my mind naturally because of his terrible divorce. There was so much to unpack for these two and I loved bringing them together for a case."

2. What are your inspirations for your books?

"My books are inspired by the mysteries I grew up with (Dateline and Unsolved Mysteries, anyone?), and infused with the lovely romantic hallmark vibes I adore. I love romantic stories with spice, but the suspense and mystery just draw me in every time. My books are also inspired greatly by music. Simone and Roger were 'Wicked Game' all the way!"

3. Why do you think representation is so important in books?

"I think representation in books is really important for helping connect with readers and created characters they can identify with. Humans are not perfect, they are unique and often mysterious. I like digging into the different types of characters that exist in our everyday lives. I also love that the romance genre strives to have something for everyone. That inclusion is created by the representation we see in the amazing books published every day."

4. Any advice for people who want to publish in 2026?

"Anyone seeking to publish needs to be ready to work, accept critique and see their writing craft as being in constant evolution. There is always so much to learn to improve your writing. Find yourself a group of authors that can relate to what you're going through. Read lots of books! This helps you find your voice and identify your own romance writing preferences. Also, START NOW! It takes a long time to prepare a book to publish."

5. What are you most looking forward to in 2026? Any more releases on the horizon?

"I have two releases coming in 2026, two new books that will be starting two new series. They will be combining spicy romance and mystery in two new sub-genres for me: western (Mine for a Moment) and historical (title has not be revealed yet). I am so excited to share them with readers. I've been finishing up my edits and cover design for Mine for a Moment and I am so in love. Both new books feel so exciting and spicy and my new MCs are my new obsession. The exploration of new settings is intriguing and challenging and I love it!"

6. Is there anything else you would like to add?

"You can check out all three Marda Loop Mysteries books now on Amazon and KU! They are interconnected standalones, but reading them in order is more fun! There will be more books coming in this series as well, I just have to have time to write them. I'm having such a good time watching holiday romance movies, I'm also tempted to write a Christmas romance."

Thank you to Mimi for getting involved in this advent! I am excited to see what they come out with in 2026. Stay tuned tomorrow for another amazing indie author and their releases!
