Wonderland Pride Spotlight Day 13: Jane Ravenscroft

The Interview

1. Are you LGBTQ+? If so, how?

"Demisexual and lesbian"

2. What rep do your books have?

"Bisexual, gay, and ADHD"

3. If you were to write in a different genre, what would it be?

"I would love to write a mystery novel. I grew up with detective shows and used to read any Sherlock book I could get my hands on. There's just something so satisfying about watching that spider web of clues come together at the end. It would definitely be out of my writing comfort zone, but I would love to give it a go someday!"

4. What is your biggest writing inspiration?

"I am a chronic daydreamer with hundreds of characters living in my head. I draw my inspiration from the world around me and it just snowballs through what-ifs until I have a plot. I really can't explain where it comes from, I've been making up stories my whole life and when I decided that they weren't half bad, I started writing them down.
My inspiration to actually publish came from Nora Sakavic. She's an indie author whose series is so well-known now that I've seen people cosplaying her characters! I guess a part of me thought, 'if she can do it, maybe I can too.'"

5. Anything exciting for you on the horizon?

"I'm really looking forward to some local conversations coming up! I can't wait to connect with readers and showcase my book. I'm also working on a prequel to my first novel which I'm really excited about."

6. Who is a queer figure you look up to?

"This is a really tough one because I don't think I could name a specific person. Being queer is something that to this day still makes me nervous in certain situations. I'm not a very confident person and unfortunately there are still people out there who have given me a hard time for being queer. So the people I look up to are the ones out there being loud and proud because they're the ones who showed me it was okay to be who I am. That includes the people who bring queer characters to media, the public figures who talk openly about their sexualities and above all the people I see everyday in real life, embracing who they are. I look up to each and every one of them and thank them for making the world a more colourful place, one act of visibility at a time."

I adore this excuse to conduct little author interviews! Happy Pride everyone! Stay tuned tomorrow for another amazing indie author and their LGBTQ+ releases!
